The Annual General Assembly of the Electricity Market Association (SAE), a member of the Federation of Employers & Industrialists (OEB) was held on Tuesday, September 9, on Tuesday, September 9th.
The annual General Assembly, held at 360 Nicosia, was honored with the presence of state officials, Members and Party Representatives, senior executives of public organizations, business and professional associations, as well as members of the SAE.
The event began with the presentation of the Association by the Vice President, Ms. Angela Andreou. Subsequently, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mr. Alexis Vafadis, addressed a greeting on the part of the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Greetings were addressed by the President of the OEB, Mr. George Pantelidis, as well as the Executive Director Mr. Stavros Stavrinou and the Market Manager Dr. Konstantinos Varnavas of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator (DSMK).
The president of SAE, Mr. George Chrysochos, in his speech referred to the importance of October 1, 2025, a date marking the first day of the competitive electricity market (AEA). As he pointed out, AEA's success will not be judged exclusively by the date of its activation, but by whether all the necessary reforms in the energy sector will be fully and integrated, including the arrival of natural gas, the upgrading of the network and the implementation of energy storage projects.
Mr Chrysochos also explained why the competitive electricity market is the most efficient tool for ensuring fair and cost -costs for the benefit of consumers. At the same time, it emphasized the need for a long -term energy strategic planning that would ensure stability and meet the real needs of the country.
In closing, he assured that the SAE would continue to be a catalytic partner in shaping a sustainable and effective competitive electricity market, characterized by stability, consistency and transparency, ensuring cheap, reliable and clean energy for the whole of Cypriot society.
