In 2025, a noticeable increase in air traffic was recorded between Israel and Cyprus, which became an important signal for the tourism market in the region.
According to official data published by the Israel Airports Authority (IAA), Cyprus ranks fourth after Italy in total passenger traffic, but leads the world in the number of weekly flights from Israeli airports.
In terms of passenger traffic volume, Greece confidently holds first place - 2.2 million people. It is followed by the United States with 1.6 million and the United Arab Emirates with 1.5 million passengers. Italy and Cyprus round out the top five, each receiving 1.2 million travelers departing from Israel. At the same time, it is Cyprus that demonstrates the maximum frequency of air traffic - up to 186 flights per week from Tel Aviv and Haifa, which makes it the most accessible destination for Israeli tourists.
Despite the impressive figures, experts note the vulnerability of the current situation. Israel remains the second most important tourism market for Cyprus and leads the way in terms of daily tourist spending, making it particularly valuable from an economic point of view. Short trips throughout the year provide a steady flow outside the high season, supporting hotels, restaurants and service industries.
However, such a high dependence on one market also carries certain risks. Arrivals from Israel are up 42.6% this year, but analysts and Israeli media stress that further expansion is not guaranteed. Growth potential is directly dependent on factors beyond the control of Cyprus.
The future of tourist flows is largely determined by regional stability, the situation in the field of international air travel and the general geopolitical background in the Middle East. Even with the high attractiveness of the destination and developed infrastructure, any aggravation can immediately affect demand.
Thus, although current indicators confirm strong interest in Cyprus among Israeli tourists, economic benefits remain sensitive to external factors. This makes the task of diversifying tourism markets one of the key tasks for the sustainable development of the Cypriot tourism industry in the coming years.
