Today's decision of the FOED to reject the teacher evaluation plan strengthens our position that the problem was never a matter of dialogue, but resistance to change, said the Minister of Education, Athina Michailidou, in an intervention on the Central Television News Bulletin of the RIK.
He characterized the evaluation as necessary, stressing that the reform must be done as soon as possible. "We cannot leave children and teachers trapped in the existing system, which for fifty years has received minimal modifications", noted the Minister.
We have an obligation to proceed to the next step and for the reform to be debated democratically in the Parliament, as the alternative is to go back to the 1970s, said the Minister.
Everyone should now take on their responsibilities, Athina Michailidou concluded.
