The Cyprus Radio Foundation today launched "RİKtalks", a new series of creative working meetings around critical and contemporary social issues. The opening meeting took place in the event hall of the RIK Archive "Tassos Papadopoulos".
The initiative is implemented by the Department of Public and International Relations of RIK, with the aim of forming a dynamic platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas. The action corresponds to the institutional role of RIK as a public broadcaster.
The first topic was entitled: "Digital Literacy and Media Literacy: Intervention for the Future".
The keynote speaker was Nikos Panagiotou, professor and Director of the Peace Journalism Lab, Department of Journalism and Media at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Mr. Panagiotou is also the initiator and scientific manager of the National Pilot Program "Cultivating Critical Readers", which is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education and the General Secretariat of Information and Communication. This program places Greece at the forefront of the European strategy for news literacy, strengthening the critical capacity of students and teachers in the use and evaluation of information.
The debate was moderated by journalist Andri Hatzichristodoulou.
The meeting was attended by representatives of government agencies, members of the academic community, members of the Board of Directors and the Management Team of RIK, as well as strategic partners of the action.
The aim of the initiative is primarily to strengthen the social intervention of RIK in the formulation of strategy and the implementation of decisions concerning major social issues. At the same time, it is sought to enrich the subject matter of RIK's programs, so that they are consistent with the social issues that Public Radio and Television must institutionally highlight, communicate and serve consistently.
In the framework of the RICtalks, the working groups will function as polyphonic "thinking workshops", adopting the slogan "Think, Speak, Act" and enhancing the production of meaningful discussions and practical recommendations.
Thematic meetings will be held at regular intervals throughout the year. At the same time, the presenter of each topic will be hosted in a special podcast, where the conclusions of the discussion will be thoroughly analyzed.
In addition, the content and conclusions of each meeting will be published in the press and will be posted on the official website of the Organization,
