Politis

, their participants are residents of Cyprus aged 18 to 60 years. Prices for at-home beauty injections—from Botox to hyaluronic acid—are significantly lower than in licensed salons.

As the publication notes, illegal injection cosmetic procedures are causing concern among experts. Some women who participated in such activities faced serious complications. Politis has a photograph in which a young woman experienced extensive swelling and hemorrhages on her lips after receiving hyaluronic acid.

“These symptoms, according to experts, indicate improper technique for performing the procedure, the use of low-quality material or damage to blood vessels, which can lead to tissue necrosis if you do not consult a specialist,” explains Politis

.

It is also alarming that in most cases, such “beauty salons” disappear a few hours after the procedures, leaving women without the opportunity to communicate, diagnose or treat possible complications. Some patients had to urgently turn to private dermatologists and plastic surgeons. There are also those who “hush up” their problems so as not to attract public attention.

— Botox is a drug. It must be administered by a doctor in a clinic equipped with appropriate equipment so that any possible side effects can be eliminated, Politis told

dermatologist and lecturer at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Nicosia Dr Nicole Sakkas.

The doctor added that an error in the dosage of the drug administered, even if it is Botox, which has passed the necessary tests necessary for the legal sale of drugs in Cyprus, can lead to death.

When asked why someone would choose to have cosmetic surgery performed outside of a doctor's office by people who may not be doctors, she explained that the main consideration is financial.

— There is usually a difference in the price at which these “services” are provided, which makes them more attractive. However, the financial factor should not be the only criterion when choosing, the dermatologist said. — Patient safety and protection must be considered.

The cost in case of any damage to health will be significantly higher than the money that the patient would need if she decided to go to a licensed clinic with a doctor who knows his business. Nicole Sakkas called on Cypriot women who have become victims of such “cosmetic interventions” to report them to the competent authorities, for example, the police.

In addition to the police, complaints can also be submitted to the Pharmaceutical Service of the Republic of Cyprus. Its director, Dr Helena Panagiotopoulou, urged victims not to be afraid to complain. Service inspectors check information and, if violations of the law are detected, refer cases to the police.
