An Iranian told how he survived a strike on the Akrotiri base in Cyprus

An Iranian living near the Akrotiri airbase shared memories of the night an explosion was heard in the area, believed to be related to a drone attack.

According to him, after the first explosion there was no official information for several hours, and then at about three o'clock in the morning sirens sounded in the area.

The man, who has been living in Cyprus for about six months and asked that his name not be disclosed, said he heard an explosion around 23:00-00:00 on Sunday, March 1. For three to four hours, he could not find news about what had happened and relied solely on social networks and Internet resources.

The next day, on the advice of local residents, he and his family left home and spent the night at a school in Erimi, where a temporary shelter had been set up. On Tuesday, March 2, the family returned home.

“Of course, we always feel a little unsafe, especially because we live next to the base. But it is what it is, what can you do?” - he noted.

According to him, the conditions at the school were acceptable: “This is not a home, but this is necessary to save lives.”

The man emphasized that he had not received official notifications about what was happening. Несмотря на пережитый стресс, он выразил поддержку ударам по Ирану, заявив, что многие иранцы, по его мнению, выступают против нынешнего режима и рассчитывают на его падение.

“Nobody likes war. War is bad. But people cannot cope alone,” he said, adding that he hopes for political change in his country.

Returning home, he admitted that he remains worried, but tries to remain calm: “Anything can happen at any moment. But we hope that nothing else will happen and people can return to normal life.”
