The Government decided to set up a Directorate for Combating Organized Crime.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Justice, Marios Hartsiotis, after a meeting with the Greek Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.
The new directorate will draw expertise and guidance from the corresponding Greek one, which was established about a year ago with very positive results, as mentioned in joint statements by the two Ministers.
Marios Hartsiotis characterized organized crime as a very serious social issue, which concerns all the member states of the European Union.
Michalis Chrysochoidis assured that there will be support from the Greek side in the project of the Republic of Cyprus and noted that for some time now there has been cooperation with the authorities of the two countries on this particular issue.
