Visit of the Minister of State for European Affairs of Germany to ERATOSTHENES

The ERATOSTHENIS Center of Excellence of the Cyprus University of Technology welcomed on Monday, March 2, Mr. Gunther Krichbaum, Minister of European Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, as part of an official visit to the Center's premises in Limassol.  

The Minister was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Cyprus, Dr. Hans Peter Jugel, as well as the Ministerial Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission of the German Embassy, ​​Dr. Dirk Roland Haupt.

The distinguished guests were welcomed by the President of EOA Limassol Mr. Yiannis Tsouloftas, the Mayor of Limassol Mr. Yiannis Armeutis, the Managing Director and Director of the Center of Excellence "Eratosthenes" Mr. Diophantos Hatzimitsis and Mr. Andreas Anagiotos, Members of the Academic Community and representatives of its Administration Eratosthenes Center of Excellence.

During the meeting, the President of EOA Limassol underlined that the "Eratosthenes" Center of Excellence is a strategic partner of the Organization, with a long-term and essential cooperation that is reflected in specific actions and tangible projects. As he mentioned, the Geographical Information Systems developed in collaboration with the Center are a key pillar of the EOA's digital transition and a foundation for the creation of a new generation of "smart services".

At the same time, he expressed the strong will of EOA Limassol — as a founding partner of EIT Water — for further cooperation with German public and private bodies. Through the exchange of know-how, best practices and innovative approaches, bilateral relations can be strengthened, the role of Local Government can be upgraded and services to citizens can be substantially improved.

The visit is considered particularly important for the long-term and strategic cooperation between Germany and Cyprus in the field of research and technology.
