Livestock breeders protest in Livadia for killing asymptomatic animals

About 30 breeders gathered at noon in the area of Livadi and protested against the killing by the Veterinary Services of the animals, which they claim are asymptomatic for FMD.

A farm owner complained that the information about foot-and-mouth disease in the occupied territories existed since December but neither preventive measures were taken, as she claims, nor were the farmers informed while the livestock zones were left unprotected.

Forced to kill animals in units with foot-and-mouth disease, the Veterinary Services respond.

The killing of animals in livestock units in which cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been detected is imperative, the Veterinary Services state in a statement, to add that "no deviation is foreseen from the moment there is a positive case in a livestock unit".
